Physical Characteristics
The blue oak tress leaves are blueish grayish. That is how the blue oak tree got its name; its leaves. The blue oak tree grows acorns. The acorns are a important food source to the Native Suisuns. The acorns are long and thin.
Habitat
The blue oak grows in California on the western coast of North America. It grows in open savannas to open woodlands.
Edibility
The Native Suisuns ate the acorns that grow on the blue oak tree. The Native Suisuns would pound and crush acorns for acorn mush and they would eat it. They would crush acorns on a special type of rock, it was called a grinding rock. They would also have a rock that is round so they can pound the acorns this rock is called a pestle.
